Art in the Afternoon

I belong to a group called B.A.G. It stands for Book Artist Group.  I all started several years ago when I took some book making classes at the college.  Our teacher, Jean, is just amazing.  After several classes, Jean offered to teach classes in her home to a smaller group of students.  There were about 10 of us that have signed up and continue to this day taking  Jean’s classes.  Well, we decided we wanted to meet once a month to share what we have been doing on our own when not taking classes.  We meet the first Saturday of each month.  Let me tell you, there are some amazing artists in this group!  Not only do we have book makers, we have doll makers, weavers, painters, and just about any art form you can think of.  I love to meet with these ladies and have my brain stimulated.  Well, we enjoyed meeting once a month so much, we decided that it still wasn’t enough.  So we decided to meet the first and third Wednesday of each month to work on our craft.  We meet at Jean and Shelia’s houses.

I was at Shelia’s house for the  first time last month.  Wow! I was just blown away!  Not only does she have a wonderful home, her studio is to die for.  I brought my camera this past Wednesday and asked if I could take pictures.  She was delighted.

This is a picture of her home.  I didn’t get it all in the picture.  Her studio is to the right and you can see it in the next picture.

That’s the front of her studio, now wait until you see the inside!

Books and magazines are so organized!!

That’s Shelia standing at one of several work stations.

Those curtains hiding  “stuff” are just drop cloths she purchased at Lowe”s.  Very creative!

Shelia is standing behind a dress form that has on it a beautiful sweater vest she is making.  Notice above the windows the hats she has made and the hat forms she has them on.  Lots and lots of windows!

An entire table just for sewing!  Love how she has her thread displayed at the window.  You can’t see it, but she has a ton of more thread under the table.  Again, lots and lots of windows looking out on to beautiful wooded yards.

Shelia has a place for every thing.  I asked for a ruler and she asked what kind and knew exactly where to get it.

Molly and Shelia

Don’t you just love Molly?  She is so very friendly.  When you drive up to the studio and open your door, Molly jump into your car, gets on your lap and gives you a big kiss.  I just adore her!

Molly waiting for the ladies to arrive.  Notice the pretty carpet Shelia has on the floor of her studio.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Blessings.

  • I want a Lhasa Apso!! Hutch was such a good, sweet dog. Shelia definitely should submit her studio to Where Women Create. It is awesome! Inspires me to work on my own studio — yeah right. I think I’ll go read an Anita Blake book. 😀 I found some in the series at Goodwill tonight. Tomorrow is half off day so I may cruise over to the one in AJ. Wish you were here to go thrifting with. Lots to do tomorrow including getting a book on Ireland plus some Euros. So excited!!
